The phase Project : Haptic and Visual Interaction for Music Exploration
نویسندگان
چکیده
PHASE is a research project concerning multi-modal systems for generation, handling and control of sound and music. Some of the research results have been implemented in an interactive installation, a musical game integrating various metaphors. This installation, open to the public at the G. Pompidou museum for three months, was an extraordinary success showing the validity of such a device and revealing many possibilities of gestural music control.

Sound and music control using haptic and visual feedback in the PHASE installation
The PHASE project is a research project devoted to the study and the realization of systems of multi-modal interaction for generation, handling and control of sound and music. Supported by the network RIAM (Recherche et Innovation en Audiovisuel et Multimédia), it was carried out by the CEA-LIST for haptic research, Haption for the realization of the haptic device, Ondim for integration and vis...
متن کاملMulti-Finger Haptic Interaction within the MIAMM Project
In this paper we provide a brief introduction to MIAMM – a multimodal system for exploration of music databases. Among the modalities supported, haptics plays a central role. In particular, multi-finger haptic interaction techniques for data shaping and exploration will be investigated. We explain our chosen methodology for designing these interaction techniques and compare our approach with pr...
متن کاملPHASE Project Les journées du design sonore 2004 Human-Computer Interactions
From the end of September to mid December 2004 (and during the days of sound design), a demonstration of PHASE will be presented in the children’s galery at the Pompidou centre, in the form of an interactive installation offering the public a musical game. Different from a video game the aim is not to animate the pixels on the screen but to play with the music and to incite a musical awareness....
متن کاملWhen Touch Forms Vision - Object Recognition as a Function of Polysensory Prior Knowledge
We investigated how various forms of prior knowledge influence learning speed and recognition performance of previously unfamiliar three-dimensional (3D) objects. The learning objects were three 'molecule' models each of which was composed of four spheres. Prior knowledge was varied in terms of the sensory modality (visual versus haptic versus visuohaptic) employed during a so-called exploratio...
متن کاملA Malleable Interface for Sonic Exploration
Input devices for controlling music software can benefit from exploiting the use of perceptual-motor skill in interaction. The project described here is a new musical controller, designed with the aim of enabling intuitive and nuanced interaction through direct physical manipulation of malleable material. The controller is made from conductive foam. This foam changes electrical resistance when ...
